Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has approved a special promotion for Francis Ameh Igonoh, a Superintendent of Narcotics. Igonoh has been honored with the prestigious 2024 International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Outstanding Operational Success Award.
During a brief ceremony at NDLEA headquarters, where Igonoh presented his award certificates, General Marwa praised him for bringing pride to the agency and Nigeria. “You have distinguished yourself in our concerted effort to curb the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria,” Marwa stated. “The global recognition of our role in dismantling fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine cartels is a testament to enhanced intelligence and the invaluable support of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.”
Marwa further lauded Igonoh’s dedication, commitment, and professionalism, attributes that have not only earned him global recognition but also prompted his accelerated promotion to Assistant Commander of Narcotics. This promotion comes ahead of his scheduled elevation to Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, marking a significant milestone in his career.
“This international recognition is not just a pride to yourself and your family but to the Agency and the nation as a whole,” Marwa continued. “The sacrifice of a narcotic officer cannot be quantified in gold or silver, for he is fulfilling a higher calling. Every kilo of drugs seized makes our streets and society safer for our children, families, and kinsmen. NDLEA is proud of its workforce and will continue to reward hard work and excellence.”
The award certificate, signed by Harward Lampley, Director of the West Africa Regional Training Center, commended Igonoh’s commitment to applying the skills and techniques from ILEA training to combat drug trafficking. “Your commitment has significantly contributed to countering Transnational Organised Crime,” the certificate read. “The West Africa Regional Training Center (RTC) and the ILEA Program appreciate your significant contributions in promoting regional and global security.”
Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, also attended the ceremony, underscoring the agency’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding outstanding service among its officers.
