The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video of a protest at Lekki Tollgate, Lagos State, purported to have been staged yesterday, Monday, December 7, 2020.
In a press statement released made available to fasnewsng.com by the command’s imagemaker, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Command wishes to debunk the fake video that has been circulating to create tension and to destabilize the security network in the state. According to Adejobi, the video was one of the viral videos released during the recent violent EndSARS protest before the Lekki Tollgate plaza was set ablaze by the violent protesters who highjacked the protests on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.
“The command therefore urges the general public to regard the video as baseless and mischievous. The command also wishes to appeal to the general public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses as the police is prepared to deal decisively, within the ambit of the law with any act of lawlessness that could lead to break down of law and order in the state.” Adejobi said.
In another development, Lagos State Police command has arrested 23-year-old Fatai Ismai a.k.a small, who is alleged to be a notorious armed robber and has been terrorizing residents of Langbasa Area, Ajah Lagos State.
Fatia was arrested by the police with the help of some community members, when he went to attack a supermarket at Folarin Bus Stop, Ajah Area few weeks ago.
The suspect who confessed to be a cultist, was once arrested by the police command in 2017 for a similar offence and charged to court. One locally made pistol with some cartridges, which he claimed was procured from a man (name withheld) who is presently at large.
In the same vein, nine (9) arsonists that set ablaze Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 during the recent violent EndSARS protest in Lagos State have been arrested. The suspects included Abdulganiyu Habeeb,30, Adetunji Senyi, 27, Ahmed Animashahun, 28, Alowonle Lawal, 28, Taiwo Nuah, 19, and four others.
In addition, the operatives attached to the State CID of the command have also arrested the duo of Precious Chukwu, a 22year old female and 18-year-old Offiah Ujunwa for conspiring with one 26-year-old Uber driver, Ifesinachi Blessed, who resides at Coker area Lagos State, to stage a kidnapping and presently at large.
The fleeing suspect, Ifesinachi, had kept Ujunwa at a hideout and placed calls across to her family that she had been kidnapped. He pretended as a kidnapper and demanded for 30 million naira ransom and after negotiation, with the help of his other girlfriend, Precious Chukwu, and the family agreed to pay him seven hundred thousand naira only (#700,000) before he “released” Ujunwa.
Upon information, police swung into action and later discovered that it was a staged kidnapping, and there were all immediately apprehended except the fleeing Uber driver who is still at large.
In a similarly development, the command has continued its fight against cultism in the state as its operatives arrested two (2) suspected cultists at Igbologun Division on Sunday, December 6, 2020.
The suspects are arrested are: a 22-year-old a member of the Eiye Confraternity, Sheriff Haruna who resides in Snake Island area of Lagos State and 26-year-old a member of Aiye Confraternity, Dare Gabriel of same address. The two were engaged in supremacy fight before they were arrested by the police while a locally made pistol was found on Sheriff.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, who personally interrogated and paraded the suspects at the command Headquarters has ordered for thorough investigation into the cases and that the fleeing members of the gangs be arrested for further police actions.
