In response to the ongoing threat of kidnapping across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is ramping up its efforts to combat this nefarious crime and related vices. Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the NPF is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
IGP Egbetokun has charged the Deputy Inspector General of Police overseeing the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the wider intelligence community to bolster their operations and intelligence gathering capabilities. Recognizing the persistent challenges posed by kidnapping and abduction, the NPF is committed to deploying all necessary resources and strategies to address these threats.
To this end, the IGP has directed the FID to intensify intelligence-gathering efforts and collaborate closely with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders. The aim is to gather actionable intelligence on kidnapping syndicates and their evolving tactics nationwide. Enhanced coordination and information sharing among intelligence agencies are crucial for targeted operations against kidnappers and their networks, with a focus on rescuing captives and dismantling criminal activities.
In a strategic meeting held at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the Inspector General of Police welcomed delegates from the US Treasury Department and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). The meeting focused on bolstering financial intelligence capabilities to combat corruption, counterterrorism financing, and money laundering. Both parties emphasized the pivotal role of financial intelligence in combating illicit activities and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts to safeguard national security and promote financial integrity.
IGP Egbetokun commended intelligence operatives for their efforts in addressing current security challenges and reiterated the NPF’s determination to relentlessly pursue perpetrators of kidnapping and other criminal activities. The NPF remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law, protect citizens, and bring criminals to justice.
