Governor Dapo Abiodun has, in just a few years, managed to alienate not just his political rivals but the very people whose mandate put him in office.

His tenure has been defined less by visionary leadership and more by pettiness, selective vendetta, and a dangerous appetite for power plays at the expense of governance.

And nowhere is the frustration more palpable than in Ogun East, his own political base.

A Governor Who Governs by Grudge

From the demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu-Ode to the current onslaught against Asoludero Court in Sagamu, Abiodun has turned Ogun State into a theatre of personal vendettas. These are not coincidences. They are calculated acts of political aggression against perceived enemies, even when those “enemies” have contributed more to Ogun’s growth than his entire cabinet combined.

In Ogun East, where respect for legacy and community contribution runs deep, this brand of politics is pure poison. People can see through the flimsy excuses about “planning laws” and “property audits.” They know this is about settling scores, not building a state.Abiodun

The Selective Justice That Breeds Contempt

When a governor targets political opponents with bulldozers while turning a blind eye to violations in his own backyard, including allegations that his Iperu-Remo residence flouts setback rules,  he is not enforcing law, he is weaponising it.

This double standard has shredded his moral authority. You cannot claim to be a defender of order while your own house, literally, is out of order.

Economic Sabotage Disguised as Governance

Abiodun’s actions send a loud, chilling message to investors: “Your investments are only safe if you are in my political camp.” That is economic suicide for a state that desperately needs private capital.

Ogun East is a hub for business, industry, and tourism. To undermine major investors and legacy projects in this region is to directly attack the prosperity of the constituency he claims to represent. People are not stupid, they know when a governor is kneecapping their economic future for political sport.

The Politics of Fear Has an Expiry Date

Dapo Abiodun governs like a man convinced fear is more effective than respect. But fear is a blunt tool, it cuts fast, but it cannot sustain power. People may bow for now, but they are watching, counting, and waiting.

Ogun East has not forgotten the midnight demolitions, the selective punishments, the insults to their intelligence. And they will not forgive.

Why His Political Career Should Be Laid to Rest, Permanently

A governor who repeatedly prioritises vendettas over development, who uses state machinery to silence and punish instead of inspire and unite, has no business seeking further political relevance.

Dapo Abiodun has drained the goodwill that brought him to power. He has turned his own constituency into a hostile audience. He has made Ogun State a case study in how to lose a legacy before it is even written.Abiodun

The truth is simple: Ogun deserves better, Ogun East demands better, and Nigeria should never again entrust Dapo Abiodun with public office. His political career should not just be checked , it should be laid to rest for good.

History will remember him, yes,  but as a cautionary tale, not a statesman.
