The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has rescheduled 2021 May/June West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In statement titled, ‘Conduct Of WASSCE For School Candidates, 2021 In Nigeria made available to Fasnews on Friday, April 9,2021, by the Acting Head, Public Affairs,, Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu, this year’s examination will commence on August 16 and end September 30.,2021 which is in line with the current WAEC academic calendar and was done in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The examination body also debunked reports that it postponed the examination, noting that the WAEC Nigeria Head, Patrick Areghan, was quoted out of context at a briefing on Tuesday, April 6,2021 when he announced the release of results of WASSCE for private candidates.
According to the statement issued, Areghan had on Tuesday said the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic distorted the academic calendars of schools and it will be impossible for candidates to sit for the examination in May because most of the schools are still in their first term.
“Let me also use this opportunity to dispel rumours being peddled about by some people regarding the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2021. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are still very much felt in the education sector,” Areghan stated on Tuesday at a briefing.
