The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has described road safety as a critical component of national and human security, as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) unveiled the maiden edition of Safe Wheel Nigeria Magazine in Abuja on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Speaking through the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Minister congratulated the FRSC on what he described as a visionary initiative that aligns safety, education and strategic communication with Nigeria’s broader development goals. He noted that the launch marked a significant milestone in the country’s collective effort to build safer roads and more secure communities.
Ambassador Tuggar stressed that the security and prosperity of a nation go beyond conventional definitions, emphasising that the safety of citizens on highways is fundamental to human security. He lamented the loss of lives to road traffic crashes, describing each fatality as a tragic erosion of families, communities and the nation’s human capital.
The Minister commended the FRSC for decades of consistent service in regulation, public education and emergency response, noting that its interventions have saved countless lives, preserved families and safeguarded vital economic assets across the country.
Highlighting the international dimension of road safety, he stated that safe road networks are indispensable for intra-African trade, tourism and regional integration, which are central to Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and the African Continental Free Trade Area. He added that road safety remains a global concern and a core pillar of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
According to him, Nigeria continues to engage international partners through its diplomatic missions to promote knowledge sharing and strengthen capacity in transport safety and sustainable mobility. In this context, he described Safe Wheel Nigeria Magazine as a powerful ambassador that will showcase Nigeria’s innovations, challenges and successes to the global community while fostering dialogue with other nations, multilateral organisations and road safety advocates.

Tuggar further described the magazine as more than a publication, but a strategic communication platform capable of bridging policy and practice. He noted that it would educate the public, engage stakeholders, celebrate unsung heroes on the highways and advocate a cultural shift where safety becomes a shared responsibility on every journey.
He assured the FRSC of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to collaborate and support initiatives that advance road safety objectives, expressing confidence that Safe Wheel Nigeria Magazine would serve as a beacon of knowledge, a record of progress and a catalyst for lasting change.
