Tinubu Appoints New DSS Chief, Replaces Yusuf Bichi Amidst Calls For Reform

In a significant move reflecting his administration’s commitment to national security and intelligence reform, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The appointment, announced on Monday, August 26, 2024, comes alongside the selection of Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
 
The decision to replace the former DSS boss, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, has sparked discussions in security and political circles, as Bichi’s tenure had been marked by both commendations and controversies. Under Bichi’s leadership, the DSS was involved in several high-profile operations, including counterterrorism efforts and the management of internal security threats.
