In a major sweep against cybercrime in Nigeria’s South-South region, troops of the Headquarters 63 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have arrested 183 suspected internet fraudsters during a tactical raid in Warri, Delta State.
The operation, which took place on July 19, 2025, followed intelligence received about a suspected internet fraud training centre in the heart of the city. All suspects, aged between 16 and 29, were arrested in various apartments where they were allegedly being groomed in cybercrime-related activities.
Recovered from the scene were 274 assorted laptops, 87 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, a table phone, and two WiFi routers. Military authorities revealed that the suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigations, with appropriate legal steps to follow.
In a related development, Army troops also apprehended a suspected cultist, 26-year-old Mr. Igbe Lucky Chika, believed to be a member of the Viking confraternity. He was arrested in the Ezionun Community on the same day. Items recovered from him included a locally made firearm, an axe, a cutlass, two phones, and a Toyota Camry with registration number Delta ASB 41 BE.
Army Brigadier General MA Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade and Sector 1 OPDS, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift execution. He called on the public to continue cooperating with security agencies in their quest to rid the region of crime and insecurity.
