Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has refuted claims suggesting his reluctance to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The governor, renowned for his transformational leadership, described the allegations as a smear campaign orchestrated by opposition politicians intimidated by his achievements.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, Governor Soludo reiterated his commitment to peace and stability in the South East. The governor emphasized that contrary to the claims, he has been at the forefront of advocating for Kanu’s release. He revealed that his administration has initiated efforts for Kanu to be granted administrative bail, believing it is crucial for restoring harmony in the region.Soludo

Governor Soludo expressed concern over the criminal elements that have hijacked the Biafra agitation, turning it into a conduit for kidnapping, armed robbery, ritual killings, and other violent crimes. “These criminal activities have deviated from the core ideals of the Biafra struggle, transforming it into a lucrative enterprise,” he said.

To combat the rising insecurity, the governor announced the launch of “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” (Operation Peace Shall Reign), set to commence in January. The initiative aims to tackle criminal activities head-on and ensure safety across Anambra State.

Governor Soludo also highlighted his long-standing support for Nnamdi Kanu. In 2017, he led a delegation of Igbo leaders to visit Kanu in Kuje Prison and called for his unconditional release. He reaffirmed his belief that dialogue and justice are essential for resolving the region’s challenges.

Despite these efforts, the governor expressed a legitimate concern: the possibility that criminal elements exploiting the Biafra movement might not heed Kanu’s directives. This reality underscores the need for a comprehensive security strategy to address the underlying issues.

Governor Soludo has surpassed his campaign promises within three years, earning praise for his infrastructural and developmental strides. His administration’s commitment to transparency and progress continues to position Anambra State as a beacon of hope in the South East.

The governor’s proactive stance on Kanu’s release, coupled with his bold security initiative, reaffirms his dedication to peace, stability, and the welfare of the people of Anambra State.
