Toronto-based institution, The Great Lakes College of Toronto (GLCT), has announced the appointment of Prince Segun Akanni, Publisher of The Drum Online Media, as its Overseas Admission Officer.
The appointment, effective from November 1, 2024, to October 30, 2027, was confirmed in a letter signed by the school’s management.
Founded in 1978, GLCT is a private high school located in Toronto’s High Park North area, known for preparing students for higher education in North America. Offering Canadian and international curriculums, the institution is certified by the Ontario Ministry of Education and specializes in personalized education, including support for English as a Second Language (ESL) learners.
GLCT stands out with its flexible admissions process, featuring five annual intakes to accommodate students’ visa statuses. It boasts a diverse student body representing over 60 countries, with over 90% of its graduates gaining admission to top North American universities, 60% of whom secure scholarships. Annual tuition fees range from C$16,700 to C$22,700, with boarding options available.
In his capacity as Overseas Admission Officer, Akanni will focus on recruiting qualified international students, assessing applications, and providing critical information to prospective students and their families.
Speaking about his appointment, Prince Segun Akanni outlined his commitment to promoting GLCT among African-Canadians, with a particular emphasis on attracting students from West and East Africa. “Hopefully, before the first quarter of 2025, we will have recruited hundreds of reputable international students,” he stated.
Akanni praised GLCT’s legacy, highlighting its student population of over 20,000 and its global alumni network of 230,000. “The Great Lakes College reflects Toronto’s dynamic diversity and offers unparalleled opportunities for students worldwide,” he added.
This new role marks a significant milestone for Akanni, leveraging his expertise in global communications to advance GLCT’s mission of delivering top-tier education to international students.
