The Nigeria Police Force has raised the alarm over the increasing wave of lobbying and unofficial promotion requests directed at the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission by officers seeking special promotions.

This surge, the Force revealed, was triggered by misinformation being spread on certain media platforms following the recent approval of accelerated promotions for a select group of exceptional officers.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the Force clarified that the recent promotions were neither arbitrary nor politically influenced but stemmed from a well-structured reward system designed to honour officers who have shown outstanding courage, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

“The police officers who benefited met all standardized guidelines for accelerated promotions based on verifiable merit,” the statement read. “There is no ongoing general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme within the Force.”Police

Reacting to misleading reports by an online platform suggesting otherwise, the Nigeria Police Force urged the public to disregard such falsehoods crafted to undermine the integrity of the promotion process. It reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and due process in all personnel decisions.

In a stern warning to serving officers, the Police Force cautioned against lobbying or using back channels to influence promotions. It described such behaviour as unethical, damaging to morale, and punishable under extant disciplinary laws.

While the Force reinforced its stance on professionalism, discipline, and honour, it also celebrated a major stride in welfare improvement. On Wednesday, IGP Egbetokun officially commissioned over 300 newly constructed police residential units and other vital facilities in Kano State, in a bold move aimed at elevating the living standards of officers and enhancing operational efficiency.

The facilities, located at Bompai and Zaria Road, include:

* Over 300 modern residential units,

A 48-office administrative complex,

Standard armoury,

Transport workshop,

POWA shops,

Worship centres,

Paved internal roads and support infrastructure.Police

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony attended by officers, stakeholders, and special guests, the IGP declared, “This is not just infrastructure; this is our statement of belief in the dignity of the Nigerian police officer. No one should defend a nation by day and sleep in indignity by night.”

IGP Egbetokun praised the private sector partners and stakeholders whose support made the project possible, and extended deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his consistent support under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He revealed that similar projects are underway across multiple states, as part of a national police transformation blueprint.

The Inspector-General emphasized that improved welfare will remain a cornerstone of institutional renewal, noting that a motivated police force is fundamental to lasting national security and development.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to building a Force driven by professionalism, performance, and pride in service.
