The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement refuting recent allegations that officers raided the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Secretariat, known as the Labour House, in Abuja. The allegations, which have garnered widespread attention, were detailed in a press release from the NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations on August 7, 2024.
According to the NLC, police officers, accompanied by individuals in black T-shirts and plain clothes, stormed the Labour House, which is situated in the Central Business District of Abuja. This alleged raid sparked concerns and prompted the NLC to voice its displeasure publicly.
However, in a swift response, the Nigeria Police Force clarified that the operation conducted within the building was not targeted at the NLC or its Secretariat. Instead, the police revealed that the operation was part of an ongoing investigation into a prime criminal suspect who was traced to a shop located within the same building. The suspect, a foreign national, is reportedly involved in numerous criminal activities spanning Nigeria and other African countries.
The police emphasized that the operation was lawful and well-coordinated, carried out with the appropriate legal authority. The shop within the NLC building, rented by the suspect, was allegedly being used as a front for his criminal activities.
