The Nigeria Police Force has recorded sweeping operational successes across the country in April 2026, signaling renewed momentum in the fight against violent crime and insecurity.
Under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Force intensified intelligence-led operations, resulting in the arrest of a significant number of suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, and cult-related activities.
According to official figures, police tactical and investigative units apprehended 28 suspected terrorists, 85 suspected kidnappers, 62 armed robbery suspects, 51 individuals linked to murder and culpable homicide, and 54 suspected cultists within the one-month period.
In what authorities describe as one of the most encouraging outcomes of the operations, a total of 189 kidnapped victims were rescued from various criminal hideouts and captivity locations nationwide. Security analysts note that such rescue operations not only disrupt criminal enterprises but also restore public confidence in law enforcement efforts.
The crackdown also led to the recovery of 140 assorted firearms and 1,074 rounds of ammunition, underscoring the scale of weapon proliferation being tackled by the police. Additionally, 37 stolen vehicles connected to criminal networks were recovered during the operations.
Police authorities attribute these gains to a combination of intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained pressure on criminal elements across different regions of the country.
Commending officers involved in the operations, the Inspector-General praised their professionalism, resilience, and dedication, noting that the results reflect the growing effectiveness of ongoing reforms within the Force. He emphasized that intelligence-driven policing remains central to addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The police leadership also reassured Nigerians of its continued resolve to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen public safety, while urging citizens to play an active role by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
As security concerns remain a national priority, the April 2026 operational report presents a picture of intensified enforcement and measurable outcomes, even as expectations remain high for sustained progress in the months ahead.
