Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious “one chance” syndicate leader and two accomplices, effectively dismantling part of a robbery gang that has terrorised commuters across the state.

The suspects, 53-year-old Bode Oludayisin, identified as the gang leader, alongside Michael Sowunmi (22) and David Olawaye (20), were apprehended by operatives of the Ikeja Division while on routine patrol along Agege Motor Road. Their arrest followed a distress call from a victim who raised an alarm while being attacked inside the gang’s operational minibus.

Recovered from the suspects were a Tecno Spark 20 smartphone belonging to a victim, an axe, two concrete interlock bricks, several heavy stones suspected to have been used in past assaults, and a broken bottle, all registered as weapons and exhibits.Police

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate operated with commercial minibuses, commonly known as korope, disguising themselves as ordinary passengers. They allegedly picked unsuspecting commuters from busy locations such as Oshodi, diverted them to isolated areas, and then robbed them using threats and violence.

The case has now been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command’s Special Squad 1 to track down other fleeing members and completely dismantle the network.

Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the breakthrough as a major win against violent crime in the state. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unmarked or suspicious vehicles, and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08063299264 and 09168631003.
