Operatives of Ijede Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, recovering a locally made firearm in the process.

On August 18, 2025, the police received reports that a man was brandishing a locally made gun and threatening residents at the Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko. Acting swiftly, officers traced the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Onamade Kayode, to an uncompleted building, where he was arrested.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, previously released from prison in 2022 for cultism-related offences, is still an active member of a cult group. During interrogation, he admitted ownership of the firearm and led operatives to a toilet pipe within the uncompleted building where the weapon was hidden.

The Lagos Police Command confirmed that Kayode is cooperating with ongoing investigations aimed at tracking other cult members and retrieving more weapons. He will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

Commending the operatives of Ijede Division for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urged residents to remain law-abiding and avoid involvement in cultism and armed robbery. He further called on the public to provide useful information to the police in order to rid communities of criminal elements.
