The Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD-CBRN) has once again demonstrated its commitment to public safety by successfully recovering unexploded military ordnances in Maiduguri on November 22, 2024. This swift intervention followed reports from vigilant residents in the affected areas.
The EOD-CBRN operatives secured the Dala Kacchallah area, where six (6) unexploded projectiles and one (1) mortar bomb were found near an uncompleted building.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the ordnances were abandoned by local scavengers after being washed ashore by recent flooding. Similarly, at the Gwange Riverbank, a military hand grenade was discovered. In both cases, the highly trained team promptly evacuated the ordnances, ensuring no loss of life, injury, or property damage.
To prevent further risks, the operatives conducted explosive risk awareness campaigns, sensitizing residents on how to identify and report suspicious items.

Commending the professionalism of the EOD-CBRN team, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, lauded their swift and effective response. “The team in Borno State has consistently displayed exemplary dedication in neutralizing threats and preventing calamities. Their efforts in recovering improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have saved countless lives and restored public confidence,” the IGP stated.
The Inspector-General urged Nigerians to avoid handling suspicious objects and to immediately report such discoveries to the nearest police station. He reassured the public of the Force’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property in Maiduguri and beyond.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the recovered items and to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, normalcy has been fully restored to the affected areas.
