Polaris Bank, in a robust display of its commitment to environmental sustainability, has expanded its nationwide tree-planting initiative in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The latest event took place at Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on October 14, 2024, following a similar exercise at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State. Professor K.K Nwozor commended the Bank’s conservation efforts.
This initiative aligns with Polaris Bank’s broader strategy to support the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), which emphasizes land restoration and resilience against desertification and drought. The bank’s efforts resonate with the 2024 World Environment Day theme, highlighting its proactive stance on restoring degraded lands and promoting biodiversity across Nigeria.
Osazuwa Igbinoba, Polaris Bank’s Directorate Head for Abuja, reiterated the bank’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Sustainability is embedded in our business strategy and actions at Polaris Bank.” Igbinoba emphasized that the tree-planting initiative not only aims to restore natural ecosystems but also focuses on planting economic trees, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Chiwetalu Nwatu, Directorate Head for the South East, further stressed that Polaris Bank’s operations integrate responsible banking with societal empowerment and environmental responsibility, grounded in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
The nationwide campaign addresses critical environmental issues, including soil erosion, air quality improvement, and carbon absorption for climate regulation. Recent tree-planting exercises took place at Tai Solarin University in Ogun State, Ajingi Community Reserve in Kano State, and the University of Ibadan in Oyo State, demonstrating the bank’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development.
Through its collaboration with NCF, Polaris Bank continues to inspire individuals, communities, and organizations to actively participate in environmental restoration efforts. This impactful initiative calls for collective action to preserve Nigeria’s ecosystems for a sustainable future. For more updates on environmental initiatives, visit fasnewsng.com.
