PDP To Abiodun: Ogun Not Your Firm, Give Account Of Finances

In the interest of probity, transparency and accountability, the Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) wishes to call the attention of the general public to the continued refusal of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Government, being run by Mr. Dapo Abiodun to make public, the details of the State Government financial accounts since the inception of his poorly rated administration in 2019.

In a statement signed by Ogun State PDP Publicity Secretary, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole, the party has continuously called for transparency and accountability in the management of the state finances.

“It would be recalled that our great party, the PDP as part of our patriotic duty to the good people of Ogun State and as responsible citizens has continuously called for transparency and accountability in the management of the Ogun State’s finances. We have made several open requests for details of the Income and Expenditure of the government under Mr. Abiodun’s watch. The office of the Governor is not a private estate of Mr. Abiodun, the people of Ogun State deserve to know how the Governor has conducted the business of government since inception.” He said.

According to Ogun State PDP, “It is saddening and utterly disappointing that such a patriotic call has continuously fallen on deaf ears of the operatives of government especially the Governor. The media space was occupied recently with stories about how the Governor had practically sat on Local Government funds and allocations.

“It was gathered that Mr Dapo Abiodun opened bank accounts on behalf of all the 20 Local Government Councils in Ogun State in Abeokuta and none of the Chairmen was signatory to such accounts. We read that several billions in Local Government allocations and bailouts from the Federal Government as well as Paris Refunds have been frittered away by Mr. Governor in brazen and desperate circumstances. “Rather than coming out clean on these allegations, all the state machinery has gone quiet. As if the people of Ogun State do not have a right to know how their commonwealth is being used. Instead, what we heard was that Mr Abiodun has embarked on a deliberate voyage of lobbying the 20 LG Council Chairmen to write a denial of the pilfering of Local Government allocations since 2019, an exercise which puts the Chairmen in a very difficult situation. A denial by Local Government Chairmen is an admittance that they (the Chairmen) are the ones guilty of the graft and fraudulent conversion of Local Government allocations on which there are no significant records of achievements.

“Like we (PDP) have always held, the ruling government can not continue to run the business of the State in brazen secrecy. What exactly is the government hiding from its employers; the very people it should serve with all sense of dedication,transparency and honesty.” He stated further. PDP

The Ogun State PDP on behalf of its Publicity Secretary concluded that “It is equally important to remind the people that since the APC government, especially under Mr. Dapo Abiodun’s watch, public accounts have remained closed to the public. Outside the troika of Tokunbo Talabi the SSG, Dapo Okubadejo, Commissioner for Finance and the Governor himself, no one else, not even the statutory civil servants can boast of having sincere details of government earnings and expenditure”.
