Lagos Police Command has said in a statement that a shooting incident, which claimed the lives of two (2) persons on Sunday, April 24, 2022 in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, was an accident.
In a statement made available to FASNEWSng, police image maker, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that an off-duty officer shot and killed two (2) guests adding that investigations are still ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to the whole scenario.
“While investigation is ongoing, findings so far revealed that the shooting was accidental and involved an off-duty police officer, Inspr Mohammed Hussini
, serving at the State Headquarters, Ikeja. Findings equally revealed that the off-duty officer is a friend of the celebrant, Ifeanyi aka Obama and was not at the party in any official capacity.
“Efforts are currently being intensified to apprehend the fleeing birthday celebrant while the officer involved is expected to turn himself in anytime soon.
“CP Abiodun Alabi has given firm assurances that everyone found culpable in the sad and avoidable incident will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, families,colleagues and friends of one of the guests, Chikere Obiesi a.k.a. JB, who was killed at the said birthday party, organised a press briefing that took place earlier today at the late Obiesi’s (JB) shop, located at Olayeni Street, Computer Village in Ikeja axis area of the state and are demanding for justice for JB.
An anonymous witness at the party said the police officer in question was tipsy and only wanted to show love by shooting in the air when he mistakenly slipped and shot into the crowd instead.
“The killing was actually an accident,” he said.
In attendance at the press briefing to demand for justice for their late son are Mr. Samuel, vice-President PAPDA, Mr. Obiesi elder brother, Mrs. Jane Obiesi, elder sister, Osigwe Stanley younger brother, Prince Nonso Akeno friend, Germany’s Anyika colleague.
