Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have thwarted a major terrorist offensive targeting communities in Niger State, neutralizing several insurgents during a fierce battle on Monday, July 22, 2025.

The operation, which took place near Inana Village in Rijau Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, was launched in response to intelligence that a large group of terrorists was advancing from the Baban Doka axis of Maru LGA, Zamfara State, toward Ragada and Warari communities.

Acting on real-time surveillance and intelligence from the Air Component of OPFY, joint ground forces from the Mariga and Zuru axes swiftly engaged the insurgents in a coordinated assault. The ensuing firefight led to the deaths of several terrorists and the recovery of significant military hardware and logistics equipment.OPFY

Recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 18 motorcycles, and multiple communication devices, effectively crippling the terrorists’ mobility and coordination.

Tragically, one gallant Nigerian soldier paid the ultimate price during the encounter.

Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the successful operation in a press statement on July 23. He reaffirmed OPFY’s commitment to flushing out terrorist and criminal elements across the North West and North Central regions, calling on the public to support ongoing operations with credible intelligence.OPFY
