Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have rescued nine (9) kidnapped victims and neutralized several terrorists in a successful ambush along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, a notorious crossing route linking Sokoto and Zamfara States. The operation took place late on August 31, 2025.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence that terrorists were moving captives through the corridor. Troops laid an ambush, and on sighting the soldiers, the terrorists attempted to use their hostages as human shields. The troops, however, responded with precision, neutralizing some of the terrorists while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Nine victims, three adult females and six children abducted from Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni LGA, Sokoto State, were safely rescued and evacuated to the General Hospital in Shinkafi for urgent medical attention.

In addition to freeing the hostages, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle used by the terrorists, three mobile phones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniform.
The rescued victims were later handed over to officials of Shinkafi LGA, who assured that efforts were underway to reunite them with their families.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its determination to sustain aggressive counter-terrorism operations until banditry and terrorism are completely stamped out across the North West and parts of the North Central region. The Force also called on residents to continue supporting the military with credible and timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations.
