The first female and newly posted Commissioner of Police Oyo State Command, CP Ngozi Vivian Onadeko on Friday, January 15, 2021, at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo state, took the batten of leadership from the out going commissioner of police, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, who, according to the state Image maker, CSP Fadeyi Olugbenga, would be going to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State for a course.
CP Ngozi Vivian Onadeko in her speech declared that her targeted goal in Oyo state is not only to ensure that lives and property are well protected but to get rid of crime and criminalities in the state. She vowed to make the state a no-go-area for criminals. She also implore Oyo state citizens and residents to assist the command by constantly disseminating credible information so as to enable the police serve them better.
CP Onadeko is an alumnus of the prestigious Imo State University, Imo State where she bagged BSc. (Hons) degree in Sociology in 1985. She later proceeded to University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State where she also bagged Master’s degree (MSc.) in Criminology.
Onadeko was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (POLAC/ Cadet ASP Course 15) on March 15, 1988, and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State between 1988 and 1989. She has served in various administrative and operational capacities such as Crime and Staff Officer SOI, SOJ between 1989 and 1993 in Imo State Police Command. She served as a directing staff at Police College Ikeja, Lagos State from 1993 to 2001.
She equally served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Area Crime Officer (ACO), Staff Officer and Chief Superintendent of Police (Administration), all in Lagos State Command. She was later redeployed to Police Academy, Kano in 2008 as a directing Staff.
Between 2009 and 2016, as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), she was ACP Intelligence, (FIIB), FHQ Annex; ACP X-Squad FCIID Alagbon; and Area Commander, Eastern Port Authority Police Command, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She was second-in-command and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Delta State Command, between 2016 and 2019, from where she proceeded on course to the National Defense College on September 1, 2019.
She was posted to the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja as CP Training when she got promoted to the rank of commissioner of police in December 21,2019. She attended various on-the-job courses during her career, which include Advanced Detective Course (ADC) 1999, Operational Leadership Command Course (OLCC) 2005, Tactical Leadership Command Course (TLCC) 2009, and Strategic Leadership Command Course (SLCC) 2015, all at Police Staff College Jos, and National Defense College (NDC) Abuja.
The no-nonsense female CP has professional qualifications to her credit, among which are Pass Staff College, psc, Member, Nigerian Institute of Management, (mnin) and Fellow of the Defense College, (fdc). She is equally a member of professional institutions, which include International Association of Women Police (IAWP) and International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), United States of America (USA). She is married with children.
Described by Oyo state Public Relations Officer, CSP Fadeyi as a thoroughbred professional who distinguished herself in all the places she has served, Fadeyi believes that all the experiences Onadeko has gathered over the years will be to Oyo State’s advantage.
