In a strategic move to bolster leadership and reposition the Nigerian Army (NA) for enhanced operational efficiency, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the posting and appointment of several senior officers to key command, instructional, and staff roles across formations and units.
The Senior officers redeployment covers a wide spectrum, including Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters, two General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions, and Brigade Commanders, all occupying positions critical to the Army’s administrative and operational structure.
Among the Senior officers appointed as Principal Staff Officers at the Army Headquarters are Maj Gen AA Adeyinka, who moves from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) to the Department of Army Logistics as Chief of Logistics (Army); Maj Gen AA Adekeye, who shifts from the Department of Standard and Evaluation to the Department of Personnel Management as Chief of Personnel Management (Army); and Maj Gen TB Ugiagbe, redeployed from the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps to serve as Chief of Standard and Evaluation.
Others Senior officers include Maj Gen AA Idris, who moves from Defence Headquarters to head the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps as Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), and Maj Gen MO Erebulu, redeployed from the Department of Special Services and Programmes to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police as Provost Marshall (Army).
The restructuring also affected Corps-level appointments. Maj Gen EA Anaryu has been appointed Corps Commander, Supply and Transport, while Maj Gen SA Akesode was posted from the Office of the National Security Adviser to serve as Head of Mission, African Union Verification Mission in Ethiopia’s Tigray Region. Similarly, Maj Gen JE Osifo moves to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General.
For operational commands, Maj Gen ASM Wase has been appointed General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), while Maj Gen CR Nnebeife has been posted as GOC 2 Division and Commander, Sector 3 Joint Task Force OPFY.
Training institutions also witnessed leadership changes. Maj Gen MO Ihanuwaze has been appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army Finance School and Administration; Maj Gen KO Osemwegie becomes Commandant, Army Signal School; Maj Gen AJ Aliyu assumes the role of Commandant, Nigerian Army Ordnance School; while Maj Gen AC Adetoba is now Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management.
At the Senior officers brigade level, Brig Gen M Jimoh was posted from HQ Operation FANSAN YAMMA to HQ 1 Brigade as Commander; Brig Gen NE Okoloagu moves from Army War College Nigeria to command 2 Brigade; and Brig Gen AA Bello leaves the Nigerian Army School of Infantry for 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 JTF South South Operation DELTA SAFE as Commander.
While charging the newly appointed senior officers, Lt Gen Oluyede urged them to redouble their efforts in sustaining the Army’s ongoing campaigns against terrorism, insurgency, and other threats to national security. He reaffirmed that the welfare of troops remains paramount to operational successes under his leadership.
