The Ogun State Police Command has scored a significant security victory with the arrest of a notorious kidnap kingpin and the interception of a cult clash in a two-pronged operation that reinforces its commitment to public safety.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command confirmed the arrest of Clement Elijah, a serial kidnap suspect who had evaded capture since 2024 following a high-profile abduction case in Ajelanwa Village. While two of his accomplices had earlier been apprehended, Elijah remained at large until June 13, 2025, when he resurfaced in Ibiade Community with intentions to kidnap a prominent resident of Ago Village, Abigi.
Thanks to timely intelligence and active collaboration between the police and members of the local communities, Elijah’s plot was foiled before execution. The breakthrough triggered a clearance operation on June 16, during which the gang’s suspected armourer, Posi Friday, was arrested. Recovered from him were a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, and eight live cartridges ingeniously concealed inside a Boom Speaker.
Commending the efforts of the vigilant residents, Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the synergy between the Command and members of Ibiade and Abigi, attributing the successful operation to strong community support and timely information sharing.
In a separate development on the same day, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit swooped in on a brewing turf war between rival cult groups in Ijebu-Ode. Fourteen suspected cultists were arrested in the Ijagun, Ogbo, Ijele, and Imaweje areas, where they had gathered to mark their institution’s examination sign-out with plans of unleashing violence over supremacy claims.
The suspects are currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as the Command assures the public of diligent prosecution and continued updates.
The Ogun State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly, reiterating its dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
