Operatives of Ogun State Police Command on Thursday, January 21, 2021 apprehended three (3) men for beating a twenty-three (23) years-old boy to death over an alleged phone theft.
The three (3) men; Ugo Obi, Chinonso Jude and Chibuke Samson all of MTN street, Iju Ota were arrested following a complaint by one Ajibade Gbenga who reported at Onipanu Divisional Headquarters that his son Samuel Ajibade was alleged to have stolen two (2) handsets by the suspects, consequent upon which the three (3) suspects jointly descended on Ajibade beating him to state of comma. The deceased was later rushed to the general hospital Ota for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
On hearing the complaint, the DPO Onipanu Division, CSP Bamidele Job led his detectives to the scene where the three (3) suspects were quickly arrested.
According to the state police image maker, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the story, it was the quick response of the police that saved the suspects from being lynched by the angry mobs who already gathered to apply jungle justice on them for beating Ajibade to death.
The corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the general hospital, Ota mortuary for a post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
While appealing to members of public to always report anyone suspected to have committed crime to the law enforcement agency for proper investigation and prosecution rather than taking laws into their own hands, CP Ajogun consequently warned that the command will not tolerate any form of jungle justice on anybody suspected of any type of crime.
