In a stunning political twist, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while launching a scathing attack on the leadership and performance of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

This declaration came during a campaign rally in Remo for PDP candidate Oluwole, ahead of the Federal House of Representatives rerun election. Addressing a charged crowd of supporters, PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, made no attempt to conceal the party’s shifting stance.

“Let it be clear, we are more on Tinubu’s side than Dapo Abiodun’s,” Adebutu declared, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.

Despite President Tinubu being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebutu stated that the Ogun PDP remains aligned with Tinubu’s efforts to rescue the nation from economic woes. He made it clear that the same confidence could not be extended to Governor Abiodun, whom he accused of arrogance, poor governance, and total disconnection from the people.PDP

“Tinubu lost in Dapo Abiodun’s ward, yet won in mine,” Adebutu noted, throwing a direct jab at the governor’s popularity within his own stronghold.

According to the former House of Representatives member, the Ogun PDP is not blinded by party politics, but is instead embracing national stability by supporting a president they believe is working hard, regardless of party affiliation.

Adebutu further slammed Governor Abiodun for failing to meet expectations, alleging that the administration has ignored critical development needs, sidelined entire communities, and run a government that benefits only a privileged few.

“This is no longer about party lines, it is about leadership,” he said. “The governor has failed our people. The roads are bad, the economy is choking, and workers are groaning. We will not continue to fold our arms while one man ruins the destiny of Ogun State.”

While Adebutu has previously criticized Governor Abiodun, this latest declaration,  aligning with President Tinubu, marks a dramatic political realignment. It also signals a widening rift in the state’s opposition narrative and an intentional distancing from Abiodun’s administration.

Political observers believe the public endorsement of Tinubu by a major PDP figure may be part of a strategy to isolate Abiodun ahead of future elections, or possibly a calculated move to align the Ogun PDP with the federal government.

Whether the move brings the Ogun PDP closer to federal influence remains uncertain. But one thing is clear, the political divide in Ogun State has grown deeper, with President Tinubu now emerging as a symbol of unity across party divides.
