The battle for Ogun’s political soul took a dramatic turn this weekend as the Ogun State Progressive Alliance warned that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s schemes to hound former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will fail woefully.

According to the group, a carefully orchestrated plot has been unfolding against Daniel, from threats to demolish his house and hotel, to his controversial suspension from the party, and the spread of revisionist propaganda designed to discredit him. “The ultimate goal is to frustrate OGD out of the APC so that Abiodun can stage a one-man show in his Senate ambition,” the GROUP declared.

The group alleged that the sinister plan is two-fold: first, to pitch President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against OGD by painting him as unreliable; and second, to erase his progressive legacy with concocted narratives. “But the facts are clear. While OGD was sponsoring NADECO and standing firmly for the June 12 struggle, Dapo Abiodun was seen hobnobbing with agents of destabilization who were plotting to truncate that mandate. Who then is the real Progressive?” the group asked.OGD

They argued that Abiodun’s greatest fear is Daniel’s long-standing cordial relationship with the President, a bond built on years of mutual respect and shared democratic convictions. “He knows this may count against his selfish political agenda in a free contest. That is why he is desperate to smear Daniel,” the Alliance noted.

The Progressives further alleged that Abiodun is plotting to sponsor rented crowds to protest against OGD, with a view to maligning him before the public. More disturbing, they revealed, is intelligence that the Governor is secretly planning assaults and arson attacks on Daniel’s properties. “Security operatives have been notified. This evil plan of a Governor who has refused to build Ogun State and instead taken pleasure in destruction and demolition will not stand,” they warned.

Calling Abiodun’s antics a “disgraceful waste of political energy,” the group urged him to abandon his obsession with OGD and instead focus on governance. “The Governor is presiding over a budget of over one trillion naira. Rather than investing in human capital and infrastructure, he is investing in blackmail, propaganda, and vendetta. That is not the hallmark of a Progressive.”

The Alliance concluded with a stern warning: “OGD remains solid among genuine Progressives with a clear pedigree. He cannot be driven out of APC by threats, lies, or violence. Ogun people know their true leaders, and history will vindicate OGD.”
