Corps members nationwide will soon enjoy a minimum wage of ₦77,000, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has revealed. This announcement was made on Tuesday during the commissioning of a staff bus donated by a private company in Abuja.

Brigadier General Ahmed confirmed that all arrangements for the increased allowance had been finalized, with implementation set to begin in 2025. He emphasized that the welfare and security of corps members remain the NYSC’s top priorities.

The newly commissioned staff bus, according to the DG, aims to alleviate the transportation difficulties faced by NYSC staff and corps members. “Staff of the scheme and corps members have always complained about difficulties in commuting to and from the office. This donation will significantly ease these challenges,” he noted.
In a related development, Brigadier General Ahmed issued a stern warning to corps members about the dangers of night travel and boarding vehicles at unauthorized locations. Addressing corps members at the Anambra State Orientation Camp in Mbaukwu and the Ebonyi State Orientation Camp in Afikpo, he urged them to prioritize safety and adhere to NYSC protocols when traveling.
“Unauthorized and night journeys are prohibited. If travel becomes mandatory, seek permission from the NYSC and your employers,” he advised.NYSC
The DG encouraged corps members to identify the needs of their host communities and initiate impactful projects that would uplift their standards of living. He described them as vital agents of development capable of bringing positive change.
The DG’s remarks during the Abuja event highlighted the importance of partnerships in enhancing the scheme’s operations. The donation of the bus reflects the growing collaboration between the NYSC and the private sector to address logistical challenges.
