The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Thursday, 7th August 2025, hosted a high-level delegation from the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The visiting team, led by Dr. Adedeji Ebo, included Mr. Anselme Yabouri, Director of UNREC; Miss Grub Nolwenn, UNREC staff; AIG Thomas Nebhon; and Lt. Col. O.N. Okon from NCCSALW. Also present were all Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) Secretary, and members of the Force Management Team.

The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration to stem the tide of illicit small arms and light weapons flowing into Nigeria. The UN delegation commended the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for its proactive measures in high-risk areas where illegal arms fuel criminal activities, stressing the need for coordinated intelligence, advanced tracking systems, and effective disarmament initiatives to enhance national security.

Responding, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to the international community and the Office of the National Security Adviser for their consistent support. He reaffirmed the NPF’s determination to intensify its crackdown on arms proliferation, highlighting that thousands of illegal weapons have already been recovered under his leadership. NPF

The Police Chief assured that the NPF will maintain robust partnerships with both local and international stakeholders to disrupt criminal networks that traffic weapons, while pushing intelligence-driven strategies to achieve lasting peace and public safety across the country.
