Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha has told Nigerians to ignore talks flying around that the federal government is planning another lockdown.

According to a statement signed by the SGF/PTF Chairman’s Director for Information Mr. Willie Bassey, Boss Mustapha implored Nigerians to join hands with the Federal Government to contain the spread of the corona virus by adhering to the Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPI’s) as recommended by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

“The attention of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has been drawn to some misinformation circulating on the social media to the effect that the Federal Government is contemplating another lockdown this weekend. The PTF wishes to state categorically that there is no such consideration at any of its meetings, nor has any recommendation been made to this effect to the President. The PTF frowns at such unpatriotic misinformation which is capable of causing unnecessary panic and anxiety among the populace,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Education says it has aligned with the Monday, January 18, 2021 date for schools in the country to resume.

The ministry, in a statement on Thursday, January 14,2021 signed by the director of Information, Mr. Ben Goong, the ministry said that the go-ahead was given by all other stakeholders after undertaking a comprehensive appraisal of the school resumption proposal.federal

“After extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including State Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students, the consensus of opinion is that the resumption date of January 18, 2021 should remain.

“Parents and respective institutions must ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols including compulsory wearing of facemasks by all students, teachers and workers in all schools, temperature checks and hand washing facilities at strategic locations in all schools and they must ensure constant supply of water, hand sanitizers and enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days.
