The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified its efforts to combat the spread of fake news, disinformation, and incitement, which threaten national peace and public trust.
In a decisive move, operatives of the Force apprehended Destiny Ekhorutomuen, a 38-year-old suspect, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State on December 8, 2024.

Ekhorutomuen is alleged to have created and operated multiple social media accounts dedicated to disseminating false and inciting content aimed at provoking public distrust and hostility towards the Nigeria Police.
Speaking on the arrest, the Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the suspect’s actions as a grave threat to societal cohesion and national security. “The deliberate spread of falsehoods not only erodes public trust but also undermines our collective peace and unity,” he stated.
The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its zero tolerance for acts designed to destabilize the nation or tarnish the image of critical institutions, including the Police. The Force warned that misuse of social media to propagate fake news or incite disorder constitutes a criminal offense punishable under the law.

The NPF emphasized its commitment to upholding law and order, promising to continue identifying and prosecuting individuals or groups involved in activities that endanger Nigeria’s stability.
