The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against organized crime with the arrest of an eight-member gunrunning syndicate operating in Plateau State.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended the suspects following credible intelligence. A large cache of arms, including 8 fabricated AK-47 rifles, 4 revolver guns, 4 semi-automatic pistols, and over 1,100 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, was recovered from the syndicate’s hideout.

Additionally, another suspect, Amos Sunday Gyang, was arrested for illegal possession of a semi-automatic pistol he allegedly found but failed to report to authorities. The police reiterated that unlawful possession of firearms remains a crime and urged citizens to promptly report any weapon discoveries.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s unwavering commitment to national security, vowing to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
