The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm felicitations to the Government and people of Jamaica on the occasion of the Caribbean nation’s 61st Independence Anniversary, reaffirming a commitment to deepening the already strong and historic ties between both nations.

In a congratulatory message released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, commended Her Excellency Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, while applauding Jamaica’s steady progress and global contributions since attaining independence.

“Nigeria and Jamaica share deep historical and cultural ties rooted in a common heritage, resilience, and a shared commitment to the advancement of the African diaspora,” Ambassador Tuggar stated.

He further emphasized that both nations enjoy enduring bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and fruitful cooperation, which continue to flourish across diplomatic, cultural, and economic sectors.

Tuggar praised Jamaica for its notable accomplishments in governance, education, sports, culture, and sustainable development, describing the Caribbean nation as a beacon of excellence and pride in the African diaspora.Jamaica

“Nigeria remains committed to further strengthening bilateral relations with Jamaica, particularly in the areas of trade, education, tourism, sport, and cultural exchange for the mutual benefit of our people,” he added.

The minister also reiterated Nigeria’s resolve to expand collaborative efforts within regional and international platforms such as the Commonwealth and the United Nations, with a shared goal of achieving global peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

As Jamaica marked the historic milestone on August 6, 2025, Nigeria expressed solidarity in the spirit of unity, pride, and celebration, affirming its hope for an even closer Africa-Caribbean partnership that upholds the legacy of shared ancestry and collective progress.
