In a series of meticulously coordinated operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled several drug trafficking syndicates attempting to smuggle significant consignments of cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioids through major Nigerian airports and borders.

The operations, spanning Lagos, Abuja, Edo, and other states, have resulted in multiple arrests and seizures, underscoring the agency’s commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA).
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 13 parcels of cocaine weighing 4.40kg on 5th November 2024. The consignment, bound for the UK via Lufthansa Airlines, led to the arrest of Ekeocha Anayo Nelson three days later.
On 11th November, Adegbite Solomon (aka Obama) was apprehended at MMIA while attempting to smuggle 7,800 tramadol pills, 180 rohypnol tablets, and 60 bottles of codeine to Italy aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Another smuggler, Anoke Kingsley Roomy, was caught on 15th November with 1,100 tramadol pills en route to Istanbul, Turkey.NDLEA
Meanwhile, NDLEA’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) nabbed two suspects, Omeh Uchenna Jude and Anene Valentine Chigozie, at a hotel in Lugbe, Abuja, with 1.8kg of methamphetamine destined for Qatar.
In an audacious bust, Emmanuel Okechukwu Okeke, a trans-border trafficker, was arrested on 16th November with 50,000 tramadol pills concealed in a Toyota Hummer bus. The vehicle was intercepted at Ijanikin, Lagos-Badagry Expressway, on its way from Ghana.
In Edo State, NDLEA operatives seized a staggering 997kg of cannabis during coordinated raids in Oghada, Ofosu, and Otuo communities. The agency also intercepted 88.3kg of cannabis on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and over 120kg of cannabis and codeine in Kwara State.
Beyond enforcement, NDLEA continued its WADA sensitization campaigns nationwide, reaching schools, workplaces, and worship centers. Highlights include awareness lectures at Government Secondary Schools in Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Kunchi (Kano), and Ebele Chu Group of Schools in Nkpor Onitsha (Anambra).
