The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), has emphasized the critical role of training in combating drug trafficking.

He made this remark at the closing ceremony of a two-week training program for NDLEA officers on international drug trafficking, sponsored by the German government.
The event, held on Friday, 29th November 2024, at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, featured senior Agency officials and German trainers led by a representative from the German embassy. NDLEA
Marwa stated, “To tackle the drug challenge, professionalism through training is paramount. Unless personnel are properly equipped, they cannot effectively do their job.”
The training, organized by Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), focused on crime scene investigation principles and the West Africa Police Investigation System (WAPIS). It involved classroom sessions, practical exercises, and presentations for 23 officers from various NDLEA departments.
Ms. Uduak Abasi Akpabio, representing the German embassy, praised the NDLEA’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s security and highlighted Germany’s commitment to addressing international drug trafficking. “By investing in these officers, we’ve bolstered not just Nigeria’s fight but also global efforts against drug trafficking,” she noted.NDLEA
Marwa acknowledged the impact of previous German assistance, citing the canine unit’s role in uncovering the 2021 Captagon shipment at Lagos Port. He congratulated the trainees, encouraging them to apply their newfound skills in the field and share knowledge with colleagues.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants and the donation of substance testing kits by BKA’s Nigeria liaison officer, Dominik Muller. NDLEA also honored the trainers with plaques in gratitude.NDLEA
