In a significant development for the fight against domestic and sexual violence in Lagos, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, paid a visit to AIG Idowu Owohunwa, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Annex, Lagos, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
During the meeting, Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi expressed appreciation for AIG Owohunwa’s innovative efforts in repositioning the Gender-Based Violence Unit of Lagos State Police Command and congratulated him on his recent promotion and deployment. She highlighted the pervasive issue of domestic and sexual violence in Lagos, seeking the support and partnership of FCID, Annex Lagos, to strengthen her agency’s capacity in addressing this menace.
In response, AIG Owohunwa commended Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi for her passionate and resilient leadership, aligning himself with the collaborative approach to tackle domestic and sexual violence.
As a tangible outcome of the visit, AIG Owohunwa directed the immediate establishment of a dedicated team under the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of FCID, Annex Lagos, tasked with investigating and prosecuting cases related to domestic and sexual violence.
The collaborative effort also addressed training and capacity development, with Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi committing to extending training opportunities to detectives assigned to the newly formed Domestic and Sexual Violence Team during an upcoming training program. The event concluded with the symbolic decoration of AIG Owohunwa with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence brooch by Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi, accompanied by other key officials.
The partnership marks a crucial step towards a coordinated and effective response to the challenges of domestic violence in Lagos, combining the expertise of law enforcement and the advocacy efforts of the Agency.
