The Lagos State Police Command on 23rd April, 2021, rearrested one 34-years-old Oyemachi Maduabuchi,, an inmate who had escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre in Imo State, after the jail break that occurred on 5th of April, 2021 around 2:00am for stealing a sim card.
The escaped inmate was said to have fled to his village in Fegge Onitsha, Anambra State, to meet his mother after the jail break in Owerri and she linked him up with his elder sister, Amarachi Maduabuchi who resides in Ijegun area of Lagos.
According to information gathered by Fasnews, the suspect’s sister, Amarachi invited him and he got to Lagos on Monday, 19th of April, 2021. She then took him to Bride Assembly Church, Ijesha area of Lagos for a special deliverance service on Tuesday, April 20th.
After the vigil for the special deliverance, the fleeing inmate was alleged of stealing a sim and the phone memory cards of a member (name withheld) of the church which led to his arrest and the stolen items recovered from him.
Meanwhile, in the course of Police investigation, it was revealed that the inmate has been standing trial since 2009 for Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and Arson before Justice Nna Amadi of Ngbidi High Court 1, at Ngbidi in Imo State.
The jail breaker has confessed to stealing the sim and memory cards while the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspect be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service for further investigation and necessary action.
The Commissioner of Police therefore assured the general public that the command will not relent on its efforts in making the state safe and peaceful for all and sundry to live in as all hands are on deck to effectively police Lagos State.
