The thought-provoking installation reflects humanity’s confinement of nature and serves as a call to action for environmental stewardship. Speaking at the unveiling, Bolaji Lawal, Managing Director/Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, emphasized the bank’s dedication to environmental protection and the creative industry.

Lawal highlighted that Kong in a Cage aligns with the bank’s broader Pan-African mission to empower youth and invest in a sustainable future.

Artist Toyeeb Ajayi described the installation as a dialogue on humanity’s impact on the environment. “Kong in a Cage is not just an artwork; it’s a visual plea for accountability, responsibility, and renewed respect for the fragile balance between humanity and nature,” he explained.

Ajayi’s use of recycled materials reinforces the importance of reclaiming waste for creative expression. The installation urges viewers to rethink their relationship with the planet and the potential of sustainable practices.

Ecobank’s environmental efforts are well-documented, including initiatives like the “Get Cash for Plastic Bottles” campaign, which removed over four million plastic bottles from Lagos streets, and its ongoing tree-planting projects.
