In a renewed push for institutional reforms and strategic crime-fighting, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday, July 29, 2025, convened a high-level strategic conference with senior officers at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Building, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The meeting, which brought together top-ranking officers from the level of Commissioners of Police upwards, was aimed at addressing emerging threats, evolving crime patterns, and the need to reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to national security.

While commending the officers for their steadfastness and sacrifices, the IGP highlighted the Force’s recent achievements. Between June and July 2025, the Nigeria Police arrested 5,488 suspects linked to serious crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and homicide. Additionally, 316 firearms and 2,884 rounds of ammunition were recovered, alongside 216 stolen or unregistered vehicles. The Force also successfully rescued 170 kidnapped victims, many of whom were held in challenging and remote terrains.

The IGP emphasised  that leadership in policing is earned through courage and decisions that safeguard lives. He charged the senior officers to intensify crime-fighting efforts, stressing the importance of showcasing operational successes across various Commands to restore public trust and confidence. “Our duty is not ceremonial,” he said. “We must adopt intelligence-led strategies and embrace modern technology to stay ahead of criminals. Nigerians must feel the impact of a responsive, proactive, and committed police force.” IGP

IGP Egbetokun also reiterated his administration’s focus on improved welfare for both serving and retired officers, describing it as a cornerstone of the ongoing institutional reform agenda.

In a related development, the IGP, alongside dignitaries from the legislature and civil service, presided over the decoration of newly promoted senior officers at the Peacekeeping Hall on July 28, 2025. The event celebrated 12 Commissioners of Police elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and 16 Deputy Commissioners promoted to Commissioners of Police. The promoted AIGs include Emmanuel Adegbola Aina, Enyinnaya Adiogu (fsi), Ronke Nurat Okunade (fsi), Johnson Oluwole Adenola, Hassan Audu Yabanet, Chinedu Oko, Aminu Baba Raji, Omolara Oloruntola, Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Tijani Ahmadu Abdullahi (rtd), Mohammed Usman, and Bretet Emmanuel.

Those elevated to the CP rank include Sheik Mohammed Danko, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Charles Dike, Victor Erivwode, Nnanna Oji Ama, Micheal Falade, Yakubu Dankaro, Gabriel Elaigwu, Emefile Tony Osifo (fsi), Umar Ahmed Chuso, Aina Adesola, Uduak Uta, Sylvester Edogbanya (fsi), Musa Muhammed Sani, Omoikhudu Philip, and Innocent Anagbado. The event was graced by notable personalities such as Senator Oyewunmi Olalere, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance; Hon. Obi Aguoda of the House of Representatives; Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development; and Femi Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund, among others.
