The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed grave concerns over alleged cases of extortion and misconduct by certain officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers held at Force Headquarters, Abuja, IGP Egbetokun condemned the actions of a few recalcitrant officers and called for immediate corrective measures.
Addressing Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and heads of formations, the Police Boss urged senior officers to intensify their supervision to ensure professionalism is upheld. He further directed the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, and Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to conduct routine checks on officers nationwide. Officers found guilty of misconduct will face severe punishment, with supervisory officers held accountable through vicarious liability.
Additionally, IGP Egbetokun issued a stern warning against the unethical practice of name-dropping senior officers to extort money from the public. He reaffirmed the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and unethical behavior, vowing strict disciplinary actions against any officer involved in such fraudulent activities.
In closing, the Inspector General of Police urged the public to report any attempts at extortion using his name or that of senior officers, emphasizing the need for public collaboration in curbing police misconduct. For more updates, visit fasnewsng.com.
