The Aliko Dangote Foundation has flagged off the distribution of 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable households, persons with disabilities, widows, market women, and the less privileged in Bayelsa State, in a massive humanitarian intervention aimed at cushioning the harsh economic realities in Nigeria.
At the official launch of the distribution in Yenagoa, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who represented Governor Douye Diri, hailed Aliko Dangote for his consistent philanthropic spirit and the Foundation’s longstanding support to Nigeria’s most disadvantaged.
Ewhrudjakpo also lauded the strategic partnership between the state and the Dangote Group in agriculture, noting that Dangote’s role as an off-taker of locally cultivated rice has strengthened the state’s food production efforts.
“We want to thank Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his role in our rice production drive and for considering the construction of a milling facility near our farm settlements,” he said. “This gesture exemplifies the conquering of greed through generosity, something every Nigerian should emulate.”

Representing the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Head of Operations Edero Victor Ejiro said the initiative is part of the Foundation’s National Food Intervention Programme, which targets over one million Nigerians across the 774 local government areas.
“This programme supports grassroots families and complements state-led food security initiatives,” Ejiro explained. “We are impressed by the transparency shown in Bayelsa’s distribution template and believe the food will reach the truly needy.”
In an emotional expression of gratitude, the Bayelsa State Chairman of the Joint National Association of People with Disabilities (JNAPWD), Ekpomokumor Mayor, applauded the Foundation for “putting food on our table at a time we needed it the most.”
The distribution, which has now shifted to all eight local government areas in the state, will be monitored by local councillors to ensure the rice reaches its intended beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to earn high praise as a major economic stabilizer. A July report from the Financial Derivatives Company (FDC) Limited, led by respected economist Bismarck Rewane, identified the refinery as a key force in Nigeria’s battle against inflation and high transportation costs.
According to FDC’s presentation at the Lagos Business School Executive Breakfast session, Dangote’s uniform pricing strategy, credit facilities for marketers, and deployment of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks are disrupting the downstream oil sector, slashing logistics costs and boosting small businesses.
“With 4,000 CNG-powered trucks delivering refined products across Nigeria, pump prices are dropping, inflation is being curbed, and over 42 million MSMEs are benefitting,” the report stated.
The report further described the refinery’s approach as a game changer that will encourage more private sector investment and directly impact household welfare by lowering energy costs.
As Nigeria continues to confront inflation and food insecurity, the twin impact of Dangote’s philanthropic and industrial initiatives stands out as a rare bright spot , a sentiment fasnewsng.com will continue to track as the story unfolds.
