The Delta State Police Command has uncovered a shocking case of deception involving a teenager, Princess Okolie, who allegedly staged her own kidnapping to extort ₦2 million from her parents.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, Mrs. Oliko Joy reported her daughter missing on January 2, 2025, after the girl failed to return home on December 30, 2024. The following day, the family received a distressing ransom call demanding ₦2 million for the teenager’s release.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda
Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately tasked the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, led by CSP Labe Joseph, to investigate and rescue the girl.
In a swift, intelligence-led operation, the squad apprehended a suspect, Prince Atigbi, who had collected the ransom. During interrogation, Atigbi revealed that he was not a genuine kidnapper but was carrying out a plan devised by his girlfriend, Princess Okolie.
Subsequently, Okolie was arrested and confessed to orchestrating the fake kidnapping to obtain money from her parents. Both suspects are currently in police custody, and the ransom money has been recovered.
