The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing war against violent crime and drug trafficking, successfully rescuing a kidnapped victim and arresting suspected drug dealers in coordinated operations across the state.
The operations, carried out on October 12, 2025, were executed under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, as part of the Command’s renewed commitment to strengthening internal security and safeguarding the lives and property of Delta residents.
At about 2:00 a.m., a distress call was received at Ovian Aladja Police Station, reporting that armed men had invaded a residence, robbed the occupants, and abducted a woman while her husband managed to escape.
In a swift response, CSP Friday Ekundayo, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), mobilized his team and pursued the kidnappers through the night. Acting on precise intelligence, the operatives tracked the suspects to a forest along Iyara community, where the kidnappers, sensing police presence, abandoned the victim and fled.
The rescued woman was safely reunited with her family, while a massive manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Crack Squad, Delta State Command, Asaba, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution hideout in Effurun GRA at about 5:00 a.m. the same day.
Two suspects: Igwe Samson (33) and Abalum Sunday (39), were arrested, and a Sienna vehicle used for transporting drugs was impounded. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a massive haul of illicit substances, including:
* 450 bottles of CSP Codeine, 188 bottles of Bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol (100mg), 300 sachets of Swinol, 100 sachets of Tramadol (500mg), 50 sachets of Rohypnol. A large bag of weed suspected to be cannabis.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been operating a drug distribution network for over two years, sourcing supplies from Onitsha and transporting them at night to evade detection. The police have intensified efforts to track down their suppliers and buyers.
Commending the professionalism and bravery of the operatives involved, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda urged youths in Delta State to shun crime and drug abuse, emphasizing that drugs remain one of the major catalysts for violent crimes.
“Drug abuse not only destroys the mind and body but also drives criminal behavior that threatens community safety. I urge our youths to stay away from these substances for the sake of their health and future,” the Commissioner stated.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain its intelligence-driven policing strategy to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain peace across all communities.
