In a shocking incident on November 29, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara Police Station led a team to the scene of a suspected armed robbery attack on an unsecured bullion van at the Kuto Overhead Bridge in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The targeted vehicle belonged to Ogun State Governor’s Office, carrying an unspecified amount of cash collected from Fidelity Bank and Sterling Bank in Abeokuta. Notably, the bullion van lacked security escort at the time of the brazen attack.
The armed robbery involved five assailants armed with AK-47 rifles, traveling in an unregistered silver Toyota Corolla. The attackers intercepted the bullion van, questioning the driver about the presence of rifles and specifically targeting the Director of Finance, Taiwo Oyenekan. 
In a violent display, the armed men fired shots at the front door of the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries to the Director of Finance, who later succumbed to his wounds at the State Hospital.
Despite the swift response by the Ogun State police Command, the assailants managed to flee the scene. As of now, no arrests have been made, but authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects. The Ibara Police Station is conducting an initial investigation, and the case will subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough examination.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha reassured residents of Ogun State, urging them not to panic. “The police are diligently working to gather more information and bring the perpetrators to justice. The situation is under control, and efforts are underway to enhance security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.” Alamutu assured.
