Customs Probes Viral Videos Of Officer’s Mixed Reception At Tincan Port

According to fasnewsng.com, the first video shows the officer in a confrontational setting, facing apparent hostility, while the second depicts a warm reception by the same group of agents.

In response to the incidents, the NCS has tasked its Customs Police Unit with conducting a thorough review of both videos. The investigation will include gathering statements from the involved officer and engaging relevant stakeholders to determine the circumstances behind each scenario. This action is in alignment with the NCS Act 2023, Section 30, which mandates transparent, accountable processes within the service.

Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR emphasized that any party—whether a clearing agent, customs officer, or other individual—found in violation of NCS regulations will be held accountable. The NCS aims to maintain a professional environment where trade can flourish without disruptions stemming from unprofessional behavior.

“The Nigeria Customs Service is committed to ensuring that all stakeholders at the ports operate with respect and professionalism,” said CGC Adeniyi. He reassured the public and the business community that appropriate actions would follow based on the investigation’s findings, underscoring the NCS’s dedication to a safe, orderly trading environment.

As the NCS investigates, CGC Adeniyi calls on all port stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly, supporting a secure and conducive atmosphere for legitimate trade and commerce across the nation’s ports.

The investigation, confirmed by Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, National Public Relations Officer, on October 28, 2024, continues to draw public interest as stakeholders await further updates.
