Odume Chidinma, a 2021 Batch ‘A’ member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Akwa Ibom State, who was accused of killing her boyfriend has been discharged and acquitted.
The Corp member who was serving in Akwa Ibom State when she was accused of killing 26-years-old Akwaowo Japheth and standing trial over alleged murder case at the State High Court, Uyo, was discharged on Thursday, January 13, 2022, by Justice Bassey Nkanang.
The accused was said to have hacked Japheth to death during a dispute between them in 2021.
However, police preliminary investigations have shown that Chidinma killed him in self-defense.
Akwa-Ibom Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, said that the deceased took the accused to his house and while in the house, picked up a machete and attempted to kill her but she was able to grab the machete from him and used the same machete on him, which led to his death.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Nkanang, struck out the case and discharged the accused person following the Nolle Prosequi (formal notice of discontinuation of the prosecution without a conviction) entered by the Attorney General of the State, dated January 10, 2022.
