The Nigerian Army has recorded a series of strategic successes across various theatres of operation, reinforcing its resolve to tackle terrorism, banditry, and insecurity in the country.

From Army troop advances in Taraba and Zamfara States to high-level engagements with defence planners and communication professionals, the force is intensifying efforts to achieve enduring peace and operational synergy.

At the 1 Division Headquarters in Kaduna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Mayirenso Saraso, played host to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Committee on Review of the Armed Forces of Nigeria Joint Defence Doctrine. The committee, led by Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Amin Isah, is on a mission to engage Field Commanders in updating the outdated 2017 Joint Defence Document to align with modern warfare realities.

AVM Isah said the committee, mandated by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, seeks to identify potential gaps in areas such as training, intelligence, recruitment, and technology. In response, General Saraso emphasized the importance of a bottom-up approach in military operations, noting that tactical-level inputs are vital for overall strategic success. He urged the team to consider the limitations of relying solely on the initial doctrinal drafts previously submitted.

In a related engagement, the GOC also received a delegation from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kaduna State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Mr. Haroun Malami. The visit, aimed at fostering civil-military relations, also discussed the upcoming 3rd Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW) and the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the NIPR scheduled for April 20–24, 2026 in Kaduna.

Representing the GOC, Brigadier General David Nwakonobi, Chief of Staff of the Division, lauded the NIPR’s collaboration efforts and expressed the Army’s readiness to support initiatives that promote national integration and peacebuilding.

Meanwhile, in Taraba State, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) executed a successful search and rescue mission, freeing seven kidnapped victims who were abducted along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road on August 3, 2025. The operation, conducted on August 5 and 6, led to the recovery of four victims in Chinkai Forest and three others in Owedi Community, Wukari LGA, after intense gun battles forced the kidnappers to flee.

Commander of the Army Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, hailed the troops for their bravery and vowed to sustain offensive operations to root out criminal elements in the region.

In another significant feat, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) launched a precision airstrike on August 4, 2025, targeting a large convergence of terrorists at Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State. The terrorists had reportedly gathered for a wedding ceremony. Intelligence revealed that the group included militants from Faskari and Kankara (Katsina State) and several locations across Zamfara.

The well-coordinated strike neutralized at least 30 terrorists, with many others injured and evacuated by their cohorts to Yankuzo village. Ground troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 OPFY followed up the air assault on August 5, successfully repelling an ambush and further disrupting enemy logistics.

Additionally, four collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo villagein Tsafe LGA were critically injured during the mop-up operation.

Local residents have expressed immense relief, applauding the security forces for their swift and effective response. The Nigerian Army, through OPFY, has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of communities in Zamfara and the broader North West region.

From high-level doctrine reviews to boots-on-the-ground operations, the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to demonstrate their capacity and determination to defeat insecurity on all fronts.
