The Nigerian Army, on Friday, June 27, 2025, kicked off a series of nationwide activities to commemorate its 162nd anniversary with special Juma’at prayers held across all its formations and units.

The Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, which officially commenced with the solemn religious observance, bears the theme “Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for the Nigerian Army’s Transformation Drive.”162

In Abuja, Muslim faithful converged at the Guards Brigade Jumu’at Mosque, Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro, where a spiritually charged session of gratitude, prayer, and reflection set the tone for the celebrations.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Abubakar Ndalolo, expressed deep appreciation to Almighty Allah for the strength, resilience, and remarkable progress of the Army over the past 162 years. He emphasized the importance of loyalty, discipline, and professionalism, calling on all personnel to stay focused and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

In a stirring prayer session, the Director of Islamic Affairs, Brigadier General Usman Musa, sought divine protection for the nation, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and particularly the Nigerian Army operatives serving in various theatres of operation across the country. He also prayed for wisdom for national leaders and peace across Nigeria’s diverse communities.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers from the Defence and Service Headquarters, Principal Staff Officers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), including its Deputy President, Mrs. Bilkisu Ibrahim, soldiers, and their families, all of whom gathered in unity and reverence.162

The Juma’at prayers marked the official start of NADCEL 2025 activities, which will culminate in a grand finale on July 6, 2025, at the Polo Ground in Kaduna State, where the Army will further showcase its operational strides and celebrate its storied legacy.
