In a decisive move to quell rising communal tensions and reinforce national unity, the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, on Monday, June 23, 2025, convened a landmark peace dialogue between Tiv and Fulani stakeholders from Gassol Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State.

The high-stakes meeting, held at the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Headquarters Conference Room in Jalingo, brought together critical stakeholders including the Chairman of Gassol LGA, Hon. Abubakar Usman, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security officials, all united by a shared urgency to address the root causes of conflict and chart a course toward peaceful coexistence.Army

General Uwa, known for his proactive and people-centered leadership, issued a stern call against reprisal attacks and unlawful justice, stating that “no group has the constitutional authority to take the law into its own hands.” He urged community representatives to become ambassadors of peace and champions of dialogue, reminding them that development and security can only thrive in an atmosphere of trust, unity, and mutual respect.

Acknowledging the efforts of local authorities, General Uwa commended Hon. Abubakar Usman for mobilising his people for the dialogue and for demonstrating unwavering commitment to peacebuilding efforts. He noted that while the military plays a central role in stabilising volatile zones, the enduring solution to communal conflict lies in community-led engagement and sustained communication.

The dialogue culminated in a historic peace pact signed by all participants, symbolising a unified commitment to end hostilities, reject violence, and collaborate with security agencies by providing actionable intelligence and exposing criminal elements regardless of ethnic affiliation.Army

Speaking on behalf of the communities, Hon. Usman expressed deep appreciation to the Nigerian Army for facilitating the dialogue and praised the 6 Brigade troops for their relentless sacrifice in safeguarding lives and livelihoods across the region.

“This meeting marks a turning point for us,” he stated. “We are grateful to the Army for standing not just as a force for defence, but as a force for peace.”

This initiative underscores the Army’s increasing deployment of non-kinetic conflict resolution strategies, placing dialogue and community participation at the heart of national security efforts. By leading from the front in matters of peacebuilding, the Nigerian Army under 6 Brigade continues to set the pace for military-civil relations in conflict-prone areas.Army
