The 82 Division Nigerian Army has acknowledged a viral social media video capturing an encounter between its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka-Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State.
The incident, which took place in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area during a routine security check, has stirred public attention and concern.
In a statement issued on 12 August 2025 by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, the Nigerian Army emphasized that while such checks are essential to maintaining security, reports of possible misconduct are taken with utmost seriousness.
The Division has launched a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. Ayeni assured that if any personnel are found guilty of violating military regulations, appropriate disciplinary measures will be enforced without hesitation.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and accountability, the 82 Division pledged to uphold the Rules of Engagement and the Code of Conduct in all operations. The statement further acknowledged the importance of public vigilance and the media’s role in ensuring responsible military conduct, assuring that the findings of the investigation will be made public.
